Relating Food and Fashion

Sorelle B West Coast here
I was browsing through the "TED" website and came across this Isaaz Mizrahi video
He passionately shares his ideas of creativity and how it's all through observation. He even shares his opinion of food and fashion. He relates bad fashion to serving bad food and wearing a bad dress. He humorously says, "style makes you feel great because it takes your mind off the fact you're going to die."

Sunday Funday

On this very rainy Sunday Funday the only appropriate recipe would be French Onion Soup. I made Julia Child's recipe. It was to die for!
I added a small mixed green salad with olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt, and pepper to taste.

The Killers starring Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl did not get enough credit it deserves. It was definitely a funny movie that I heard no one talk about when it was released in theatres. Heigl plays a very down to earth character that falls in love with a secret agent. Kutcher showing his body off in several scenes definitely helped out with liking the movie.

Sunday Funday

Baked Mac 'n Cheese aka Grown Up Mac 'n Cheese
It's a perfect Sunday to make comfort food. I was browsing through a blog and discovered this recipe. It's exactly like Ina Garten's recipe except for different cheese choices. If you don't know who Ina Garten is you need to start watching more of the Food Network channel. Barefoot Contessa? Is it ringing a bell? Here is the link to the recipe Grown Up Mac 'n Cheese. A blog called Cupcakes and Cashmere had this very recipe on it. The blogger suggested using horseradish cheddar and Gruyere cheese. This was such a great find!
If you really want to go all out you have to make Monkey Bread.
It will definitely put you into a food-coma.
1/2 cup of melted non-salted butter
1/3 cup of sugar
1/3 cup of brown sugar
1/4 cup of crushed pecans
1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
2 (16 ounce) cans of buttermilk biscuits
Preheat oven 375 degrees.  Coat the inside of a bundt pan with cooking spray.  Mix the sugars, cinnamon and pecans in a bowl. Separate the biscuits and cut each one into fours. Roll each one into a ball and coat in the sugar mixture. Place them into the bundt pan and add the melted butter after each layer. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes. Remove the monkey break from the bundt pan soon after it has cooled because it will be hard to remove later. Enjoy!
The Break-Up  is a great movie to watch with all this comfort food. Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston do a great job in depicting a relationship gone wrong. Vaughn's character (Gary) has some classic one-liners through out the film that keep you laughing through the emotional scenes.
"Gary: Is that how you want to play it Brooke? Because I can play it like that. I can play it like Lionel Richie, "All night long."

A Good Year is Determined by it's Spring

Sorelle B. East Coast
Pulling an all-nighter to finish all the duties before S.B. 2011. I like to put all my eggs in one basket. So, while I take a break from my work I 'Stumbled Upon' a blog [stuffnoonetoldme.blogspot.com]
with inspirational illustrations. I found two that attracted me for the moment...

Take that in. Do it. You will see a drastic change in your life.
Try and not make life unenjoyable.

I love reading inspirational sayings like these, once a day. I feel like they change my way of thinking and how I approach my usual day to day to day routine.
Be open to new things because 'there is only one thing in life that's constant.'

With that in mind, check this TED video out based on the idea of controlling our unconsciousness..
It's an amazing concept and story.

Ending note, Lent is here and my will of giving something up is not.
Nevertheless, Spring is approaching which means so is summer.

Carpe Noctem..Seize the Night

Without horse, there is no life.

Dover Saddlery's 2011 - 2012 catalog features Belgium rider Phillipe Le Jeune riding Vigo D'Arsouilles. Both Phillipe and Vigo are soaring in the air as if gravity was undefined

Check out both horse and rider on the cover of Dover and you will agree with me that this
horse could jump the moon.

Sunday Funday

The movie this week: Catfish. It's a documentary about a guy named Nev and his relationship with people he has recently met via Facebook. I don't want to go into any more detail, but I will say you will be shocked. It's one of those movies that makes you sit back and think about life.
What's on the menu for tonight? Tacos! So easy and FAST to make.
1lb of ground beef (20% fat)
1 packet of taco seasoning
1/4 cup of chopped yellow onion
1/2 cup of chopped iceberg lettuce
1/2 cup of grated cheddar cheese
10 corn or flour soft tacos
wedges of lime for garnish
salsa and guacomole of your liking
(Serves 4 People)

Prepare the ground beef as directed on the back of the taco seasoning bag. Take a taco and place in pan over high heat. Heat both sides until warm. Place taco on a plate and start to add beef, cheese, onion, lettuce, salsa, guacomole, etc. Squeeze lime juice over your finished masterpiece. Enjoy!

A Cup of Joe

Are you obsessed with coffee? I'll admit it, I am. Sorelle B West Coast coffee snob, hello!  For Christmas, I got the CitiZ Nespresso machine (pictured below) as a gift from my family. I have not seen the inside of a Starbucks or Coffee Bean since.

It honestly makes the smoothest coffee. You order these capsules online that can be shipped to your house that are $.045 each. That cylinder looking thing on the right is the "frother." It steams your milk for you in seconds by just pressing that red button. I am in love with this machine. Pictured below are other machines that Nespresso makes:

Even George Clooney knows a good cup of coffee.
